  1. What is a web site?

Do you have a file cabinet in your office or home? If yes then think of a web site as a drawer in that file cabinet. Inside each drawer are files that relate to the content of that drawer. For example you may have a drawer for recipes and then inside that drawer there are files for recipes for cakes, cookies, pot roasts, etc. To translate that into web talk-a web site is an accumulation of related pages that can be found on the Internet. Each web site has a home page-called the index page- this is the first page you see when you get on the Internet.

  2. What is the World Wide Web?

The World Wide Web (www) consists of millions and millions of individuals pages. This is the part of the Internet we hear about today.

  3. What is a browser?

To be able to view web pages everyone needs a browser which is software that enables you to go to your computer "log on" and view web pages. A browser lets you see graphics, color, links, everything. There are many browsers available and the most popular is Internet Explorer and Netscape. But new companies are being formed all the time so you may hear of Mosaic, Opera, Foxfire are just some of the latest browsers.
